ALSCON Wants FG To Evacuate Excess Electricity

The Management of Aluminium Smelter Company  of Nigeria (ALSCON) at Ikot Abasi in Akwa Ibom  state has pleaded with the Federal Government to   link its  internally generated gas fired electric power plant to the national grid as it could serve as an important backup of electricity supply  to the smelter in the event of  gas interruption.
Briefing newsmen yesterday in Uyo, the Smelter Director of public Relations, Mrs Tatyana Smirnova, said that evacuating power from the plant could also facilitate Alscon’s integration into nation’s power thereby contributing to the electricity supply in the country.
She disclosed that  the Smelter  gas fired  plant with an install capacity of  over 540 MW C is capable of  satisfying  electricity need of  the company and even give out the  excess power  available to the national grid.
Connecting the smelter ‘s power to the national grid Smirnova said  would  not only be a win- win situation for both the company and the Federal Government but   also a practical demonstration of the  ALSCON’s support  to the  government power sector road map.-Leadership
